Surely you've heard of euro pallets, perhaps in the context of logistics, or perhaps from a neighbour who you helped move his garage. However, despite the fact that many people know about euro pallets, they still do not know how to distinguish the characteristics of ordinary pallets and euro pallets.
Let's start at the beginning. A pallet is a raised platform intended for transporting and storing various goods. They are most often made of wood and have standardized dimensions. With them, goods from various industries can be transported safely and in accordance with regulations all over the world.
However, not all pallets are created equal. The most sought after are those with the highest manufacturing quality, some even made to order. Euro pallets and EPAL pallets are among the most popular ones. >.
Euro pallets were created due to the need for standardization, as it was necessary to make better use of the available space in warehouses, trucks or sea containers. A European standard was created that defines the exact dimensions of such euro pallets. They must measure 1200x800 mm and weigh approximately 25 kg. A load weighing from 1,000 to 1,500 kg can easily be placed on one such euro pallet. If the euro pallet will stand on a solid surface and will not move, we can safely place goods weighing up to 4000 kg on it. We call this the "static load capacity" of the euro pallet.
Features of the euro pallet:
- Strictly defined dimensions,
- Mark EPAL on the right and left carrier,
- On the middle bracket there is an alphanumeric label containing the manufacturer's license number, year and month of manufacture,
- ISPM 15 Heat Treatment Mark: International transport regulations often require that wooden crates in which goods are shipped meet ISPM standards. Companies that manufacture wooden pallets must properly dry the wood intended for the manufacture of pallets in order to destroy any microorganisms that may live in it and that may be dangerous for the flora and fauna of the destination,
- A certification nail can be found on repaired euro pallets,
- All four corners of the pallet must have the same bevels,
- The upper edges of the inclined guides must be sharp,
- The moisture content of euro pallets must not exceed 22%.
