Main task for wooden pallets is to transport different types of products. Such pallets, especially euro pallets, are used by all companies involved in the production and sale of goods. Their design is not accidental, all cutouts and boards are made so that the pallet fits all types of elevators and production lines. Due to its construction, it's used for international transport. They are characterized by it's high durability, as they must ensure adequate safety and protection against the damage to the transported goods.

In this blog, we'll present you an original way of using such pallets in your garden. You can quickly and easily make a wooden compost bin, which is indispensable for every gardening enthusiast.

Why do we need a compost bin?

The compost produced in the compost bin is an excellent type of natural fertilizer for the plants growing in our gardens. If it's regularly sprayed on the plants, they will be properly nourished and the soil will have a better structure. Unlike artificial fertilizers, it cannot be overdosed and doesn't burn sensitive roots. Its great advantage is that it's completely safe for plants and animals. Thanks to the use of compost, the plants in our garden will grow lushly and bloom profusely.

Step by step composter from pallets

For our project we'll need four wooden pallets of any size. If you want a permanent composter, we suggest euro pallets, which are more durable. If you don't know which pallets to use, we at LCP d.o.o. will gladly help you. The capacity of our composter will depend on the size of the pallets, so let's try to adapt it as best as possible to the size of our garden. With the help of nails or screws, we have to connect the three pallets to each other and thus create a box that stands on the floor without a single wall.

A special net should be used at the bottom of the compost bin so that moles can't eat all the earthworms from it, which are extremely important in the process. Pallets should be placed with the smooth side inwards so that compost does not accumulate under the protruding boards.

The last step is to attach the opening door to the composter, which in our case will be the fourth pallet. A good solution is to install them on hinges, which will allow easy access to the fertilizer.

The gaps between the boards ensure ideal ventilation of organic matter, so pallets are an excellent material for making a compost bin. To make it look more beautiful in our garden, you can plant plants on the sides, which will make it visually merge with the garden into one whole and won't stand out.
